Creative Fall Fashion

Minneapolis Fashion Week kicked off today, and it’s an exciting time for those both directly related to the fashion industry, and those that look to it for inspiration. Whether you prefer a more classic or trendy approach to your style, there are a number of ways to break out of your normal routine and enjoy the influence of the creatives who eat, sleep, breathe fashion. You don’t need to rework your entire wardrobe to accommodate a new season, but there are a few ideas and pieces that can complement your existing options.

What We’re Excited About

The Moto jacket trend continues, but now we’re seeing it paired with a sleek lace cami or slip dress. This unexpected pairing is  practical for chillier temps and still feminine. So often shape  can vanish with thicker fabrics and skin-covering looks. It’s not winter yet!

On-duty, utility looks are functional, comfortable, and highly intriguing. Think camo, khaki trousers, jumpsuits, combat boots. Best done if not worn all at once - add one of these items to more classic, fitted  pieces to round out your look and not appear overly military-esque.

70s: gold accessories, tan leather, florals, ruffles, swiss dot, peplum-sleeves, striped or mockneck or ribbed knit sweaters, belted dresses, pompoms, slide-on mules, oversized trench or wool coats, menswear trousers. We’ve been seen lots of these the last few seasons, so extending them into the fall is easily done.

Athleisure isn’t going anywhere, but take a page from blogger DHWANI PARIKH of Quirks of Me and try “femleisure” instead. Parikh mentioned she loved the result, “giving myself a little zing with different styles and absorbing the newness of this year’s quirky trends, I find getting drawn to a certain degree of femleisure and am now open to experimenting little by little. For my very first ootd, I paired a gorgeous wine colored top with shoulder pads and pajama style track pants to keep the look modern and street chic.” So maybe instead of the usual yoga pants + zip-up, opt for a jogger, oversized sweater, and mule instead. Still comfy, still functional, still elevated style. Cashmere leggings, anyone?

How to Work Into Your Wardrobe

Riding boots, crisp denim, and perfectly tailored blouses rarely go out of style, but how can you add a new element of character to your fall rotation?
